Using Google Maps for Research

I was surfing the internet and found an interesting source for research. I don't write contemporary but perhaps Google maps could be useful somehow for me too ;)

Look a this writers blog/website to check out how he uses google maps to sort of visit a place he's never been to... Using google maps to give you picture of a particular street for example without you having to fly to that town.
